2. 새학년 새학기 맞아 교통량 10% 증가 예상, 전문가들은 운전자들에게 출퇴근 시간을 절약하기 위해 다음과 같은 사항들을 당부했다.

캘거리경찰은 개학을 맞아 향후 2주간에 걸쳐 학교와 놀이터에서 안전운전 여부(school zones에서 속도준수)를 집중 감시할 예정이다.

    알버타주정부 학교제도 운영 만족도 62% - 레거마케팅

    여론조사기관인 ‘레거마케팅’이 1천5백명의 학부모를 상대로 지난 5-10일까지 실시한 조사에 따르면 전체의 59%는 ‘매우’또는 ‘보통’ 수준으로 주정부가 운영하는 학교제도에 만족하고 있다. 반면 32%는 ‘몹시’혹은 ‘약간’ 만족스럽지 못하다고 답했다. 9%는 무응답.

    주별로 만족도를 보면 사스케처완과 마니토바가 68%로 최고를 기록했고 퀘벡이 66%로 뒤를 이었고 대서양연안주 65%, 알버타 62%, 온타리오 54% 순이었다. B.C.주는 51%로 가장 낮았다.

    알버타주 학급당 평균 학생수는 25명 (Grade 7 - 9)

    알버타주정부는 최근 알버타주내의 1,400개 이상의 학교를 대상으로 한 조사결과를 근거로 알버타주학교들이 다른 주의 도시들에 비해 과밀이 아니라고 밝혔다.

    이번 조사에서 Grade 7 부터 9까지의 평균 학급크기는 25명으로 나타났다.

    자녀를 둔 부모를 위한 "11가지 힌트", 연방교육부

    연방교육부는 9월 새 학기를 맞아 입학을 준비하는 자녀를 둔 부모를 위한 '11가지 힌트' 를 발표했다.

    - 새로운 일과에 맞는 생활 습관을 미리 연습해라. 개학 일주일 전 정도부터 자녀의 취침 시간을 조정해 주어 충분한 적응 기간을 준다.

    - 미리 학교를 방문해라. 학교 담당자와 연락해 학교 투어를 미리 갖고 교실, 화장실 등의 위치와 학과 시간표를 받아둔다.

    - 긍정적으로 자녀를 상담해라. 학기를 기다리는 학생들의 심정을 달래주고 새롭게 만날 친구들이나 지식에 관해 긍정적으로 설명해 준다.

    - 놀이 상대를 만들어 줘라. 가능하다면 같은 학교에 다닐 놀이 친구를 미리 만들어 주는 것이 좋다.
    친한 친구가 있다는 것이 새 학교 생활에 큰 위로가 된다.

    - 입고 나갈 옷을 하루 전 밤에 결정해 주어라. 자녀가 다음 날 좀 더 안정된 일과를 시작할 수 있다.

    - 자녀의 빠른 학습을 위해서 일정의 가족 독서 시간을 정해라. 가족 구성원 전체가 약속을 하고 이 시간 동안은 독서에 집중해라. 자녀가 자연스레 책 읽는 습관을 갖게 된다.

    CFCN에서 매월 실시하는 캘거리 대형 슈퍼체인들의 식품류 가격 비교 조사(조사자 : home economist Sylvia Kong) 결과입니다(August 17, 2003). 캘거리의 장바구니 물가를 가늠해 볼 수 있는 좋은 자료입니다. 참고로 거의 대부분의 식품류에는 세금이 붙지 않습니다. 아마도 조사 이래로 Superstore가 가장 싸지 않았나 생각됩니다.

    39개의 Item의 가격을 합한 결과 Superstore( $138.12 ), Co-op( $154.26 ), IGA( $165.15 ), Safeway( $166.78 ) 순으로 가격이 싼 것으로 나타났습니다.
